All About Therapy
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a combination of the use of ‘talking therapy’ and trance/hypnosis to help bring about positive and lasting change into each individuals life.
Hypnosis or ‘trance’ is a very natural, relaxing state, encouraged by using guided relaxation, where the mind can relax and then focus on thoughts and suggestions that might be useful. Everyone will go through trance several times a day without realising, just like daydreaming. It's like daydreaming with a purpose and is a powerful tool when you are determined to achieve change.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, structured, and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time. During each session I (the therapist) look at what you (the client) wants to achieve (the solution) rather than at whatever prompted them to seek help (the problem) which helps to make those positive steps to move forward and reach your goal rather than looking back at negative thoughts from the past.
The combination of conscious change (throughout talk therapy) and subconscious change (throughout hypnosis) and many other tools I use, helps you take all the steps you need move forward.
Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP)
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a set of principles and techniques aimed to enhance self-awareness, increase confidence, build communication skills, and motivate positive social actions.
Through each individuals sensory experiences, it enables you (the client) to develop your own preferred representational system (PRS) or unique way of viewing the world. I (the therapist) employ NLP techniques to identify specific PRS and work with communication style and therapeutic goals accordingly.
Some common NLP techniques include but are not limited to:
Anchoring: associating an external or internal trigger with a healthier response until it becomes automatic
Belief changing: replacing negative thoughts or beliefs that prevent the client from achieving their desires
Re-framing: putting a situation in a different context to bring to light an adaptive reaction instead of following the same maladaptive behavioural patterns
Visualisation: forming a mental image of something the client wants
Visual-kinesthetic dissociation: guiding the client in reliving trauma by evoking an imaginative out-of-body experience
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that helps individuals to manage problems by encouraging them (the client) to recognise how their thoughts can affect their feelings and behaviour. CBT combines a cognitive approach (examining thoughts) with a behavioural approach (the things we do). It aims to breakdown overwhelming problems into smaller parts, making them easier to manage.
CBT combines two approaches for a practical and solution-focused therapy. CBT helps you (the client) understand how your thoughts and behaviours influence each other by changing the way we think or behave in a situation, can change the way we feel about life. The therapy explores learnt behaviours, habits and negative thought patterns and helps to adapt them to become more supportive.
‘According to the American Psychological Association, the core concepts of CBT include:
psychological issues are partly based on unhelpful ways of thinking
psychological issues are partly based on learned patterns of behaviour
those living with these issues can improve with better coping mechanisms and management to help relieve their symptoms’

Anxiety
Anxiety can affect many of us on a daily basis or when an uneasy event occurs. Hypnosis itself reduces anxiety, and this is done very simply through relaxation and visualisation, allowing the client to focus on the positive aspects of their life that encourages a shift in perspective.
-
Sleep
Sleep is key to our daily lives and energy stores. If we do not receive enough of it regularly it can affect us in many other ways such as mood, energy level, concentration etc. Hypnotherapy uses deep relaxation, positive talk, NLP and more techniques to help improve your sleep pattern.
-
Weight Managment
Trying to lose weight can be a challenge, different diet or weight loss programs and trying to stick to them every move can put pressure on our self even more and can become a stress on the mind, that’s where hypnotherapy can change that focus and mindset.
-
Fears and Phobias
Phobias are far more common than many people realise. A phobia is an irrational fear, a fear without good reason. People with phobias experience unwanted responses to animals, insects, objects, actions or places. The physical response is known as a stress response. Hypnotherapy uses a range of different therapeutic tools to help relax the client into a calmer state.
-
Smoking & Vaping Cessation
Many people find hypnotherapy an effective way to stop smoking. The method works to break the negative behaviours and thinking patterns associated with smoking; like smoking to relieve stress. It is these negative thoughts and behaviours that often prevent people from successfully giving up, hypnotherapy can change that thought pattern.
